Spur Sproket Or Drum And Rim For Mac

Oregon® rim sprocket systems have two components: a clutch cup with splined hub, and a free-floating rim. Oregon® spur sprockets are available for all types of chainsaws. MAC 3205 AV-14, TITAN 35-40. Oregon pro spur sprockets are durable, economical, and built to last. The chain-driving portion of the sprocket, and the clutch cup, are a single component and are all replaced together when a new spur sprocket is installed. The Pro Spur is made from quality heat treated steel and is popular for small professional chainsaws.

Greetings All,This is my first post so I know you'll go easy on me!I have a ms 250, and a very handy saw it is for the type of work I need it for. I'm wondering what, if any there would be in replacing the standard spur sprocket with a rim sprocket-assuming they make one for the little 250's. In general what are the advantages of the two designs? I see my shindaiwa 488 and mac 2-10A have rim sprockets. I've had a search through the forums and haven't turned up much info on this subject.Take care Rowan.

I was given an MS250 recently and have been running the bag off of it. Very low hours, used casually by a homeowner couple of times over a 4 year period. From what I'm seeing it's NOT gonna like 3/8' at all.

Pretty much maxxed out with a 16' bar and.325 from what I've seen here. I'm starting to like the little MS250, after getting it tuned and chain sharpened correctly, it's quite the little workhorse. Does really well for limbing and material up to about 12' or so. Not too bad with larger stuff if you don't 'push' it too hard.Cliff.

You know a 7 pin 3/8ths does sound like a pretty tall gear for a saw that little but my little clamshell 2.5ci pouland has been doing it for close to 3 years now and has as much run time as any of the 4 saws i use the most. Its not even a picco rim just a reg small spline powermate.

I have anouther saw just like it set up with.325 and a 7 tooth spur and even tho the gear ratio is better the kerf/wood removed per cut eats up any power advantage.Chain life is better with.325 compared to 3/8 low profile tho. No, I just got the saw and it came with new 18' bar and two new Sthil RSC chains. I did read on the Sthil site and it said that the picco chain cut faster than the.325 on low powered saws.according to their test. I'm not an expert on saws and chains, but my saw doesn't bog down on oak, box elder, dead ash trees. It's certainly not like my Efco 165 but it works fine for what a little saw should be used for.I got the whole setup for $150 and the saw is mint, if the.325 & rim setup is the way to go then I can afford new bar (16'?) and chain. I wouldn't want to waste $ if the.325 is not a big improvement.
