I recently purchased an electric-heat Speed Queen dryer (mechanical, not digital controls), and have found that the delicate cycle has been far too hot compared to my expectations. When tumbling clothes on the delicate setting, I find that when I attempt to take clothes out, they are too hot to even touch. This isn't even on the regular heat setting - I'm talking delicate.A service person came out and changed the thermostat and heating element (or some other related parts, not positive exactly what). My expectation is that delicate provides a little bit of heat, but this is a LOT of heat, and it shrinking lots of my clothes. Is this expected?

ADE3SRGSThe way your cycling thermostat works is it shuts the heat off when the internal disc inside the body of the thermostat reaches 153 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, when that internal control cools down by 15 degrees it turns the heater back on. Now, there are some important considerations here. It takes awhile for the heat to penetrate the thermostat body and heat that disc up, so especially on the first heat cycle, the internal dryer temp will be much higher than 153.

And since there is a considerable lag the temp will drop more than 15 before it turns back on. So the way your dryer attains a lower heat is a bit of trickery. The cycling thermostat has a little tiny heater built into it.

When the switch calls for lower heat, it turns on that tiny little heater, thereby causing the cycling thermostat to be hotter and then shutting off earlier. This is a very common way to control a dryer heat cycle.

It is also not a very accurate way to do it. In the old days, some dryers that were known for having a very gentle, low temp drying cycle (Ahem, maytag) but alas, those days are gone. Not sure how speed queen does it but other companies have a couple different ways, GE has a dual filament element and on low heat it only uses one part of it, in the case of GE sometimes the element will break and become grounded so even on low heat both filaments are on.More than likely yours has a couple different thermostats for controlling the level of heat, it's entirely possible that he replaced the regular heat thermostat. Other than that I would look at venting and outside factors.

When I turn on the GE Electric Dryer DCVH680EJ0WW, it will run for a few minutes and then shut off. What would be causing this? We have tried different heats settings, different type of loads and it happens. Everything else works, plugged in and vent clean.

I just got my new washer and dryer and washed some clothes and put them in my new dryer as in just delivered today. The dryer turned on for few seconds and turn off. No matter what the settings it would not work. So now I am at the laundry mat drying my clothes. Can anyone guess how mad I am..
